history
The castle was built from 1230 to 1250 during the Staufer period , from which the remains of humpback blocks still come, and was given to the Lords of Stein by the Counts of Wartstein as Dienstmannenburg. After 1499 the castle went to the Benedictine monastery Zwiefalten and was destroyed in the Peasants' War in 1525 (around 1600 referred to as “old castle stable ”). In 1803 the castle went to Württemberg , in 1971 the 20 meter high keep was repaired again.
Todays use
In the course of the restoration of the keep, which took place in 1971, a new ground-level entrance was created, and in 1986 and 1996 the access roads to the complex were rebuilt. Since then, the tower has been accessible as a lookout tower .
