The castle Skiva is an Outbound hilltop castle on the so-called. Castle Hill at 281.2 m above sea level. NN in the Saar loop near the city of Mettlach in the Merzig-Wadern district in Saarland .
history
Probably developed from a Franconian homestead, Skiva Castle ("mountain-rock-slope") was founded on the strategically important "castle hill" in the 9th century in the style of a tower hill castle (Motte) 350 east of the later Montclair castle and also served the Population as a refuge . Around 1000 the castle was owned by Adalbero von Luxemburg , son of Count Siegfried von Luxemburg and brother of Empress Kunigunde .
In 1016 the castle was completely destroyed by Archbishop Poppo von Babenberg during the Moselle feud .

The moth tower mound was filled up with the excavation of the moat , on which a wooden tower with a solid stone foundation stood. The outer bailey with the farm buildings was in the northwest of the oval castle complex.
Today the Burgstall (castle site) only shows the tower hill with the moats and ramparts.
