Tiefensee Castle

The Tiefensee Castle ( Polish: Zamek w Jamnej or Zamek w Głębocku ) is an abandoned castle in Głębocko (German Tiefensee ) in the Opole Voivodeship in Poland . Historically, Tiefensee belonged to the Grottkauer Land .

history

For the year 1272 a "comes Deczko de Tyfense" is documented. Tiefensee Castle initially belonged to the Duchy of Breslau and when it was divided in 1311 it came to the Duchy of Brzeg . In 1343 the city of Grottkau acquired the "castrum Tyfenze". Together with the Grottkauer Land, the castle came to the episcopal principality of Neisse in 1344 . In the Hussite Wars the castle was conquered in 1430 and destroyed in 1474 by the troops of the Bohemian rival king Matthias Corvinus . In the 18th century the ruins were partially removed. At the end of the 19th century, ruins were still visible, which were called the "Old Castle". Today only a five meter high wall residue can be seen in the forest.
