The ruins of the castle Waisenstein (Czech: Sirotčí hrádek , German and Castle Rosenstein ) is located near the village Klentnice ( Klentnitz ) in the Czech Republic .

The castle is located in the Pollau Mountains at an altitude of 414 m nm . The border with Austria runs seven kilometers to the south, and the Nové Mlýny dam, which dams the Thaya , is five kilometers north .
history
The origins of the castle go back to the 13th century when it was built by the Wehingen and was owned by the Liechtenstein and Dietrichstein family . The ruin has been a listed building since 1964.
The castle was built in the middle of the 13th century by a branch of the Swabian family Wehingen , under Siegfried Waise ( Sirotek ). After the Wehingen family died out, the castle was owned by King Wenzel III from 1305 . who was murdered a year later. Then the castle came into the possession of the Liechtenstein family. In 1575 it was transferred to the Dietrichstein family and was probably empty by then. The place is mentioned as desolate in 1590.
description
The ruins are located near the village of Klentnice on the northern edge of the 458 m high Stolová hora ( Table Mountain ), about 3 km north of Mikulov ( Nikolsburg ). The castle was built on two limestone cliffs, which are separated by a deep gorge, which is believed to have been crossed by a bridge. The main part of the castle is on a rock facing south. A three-story hall stood on the southern rock plateau. In the north, which is now inaccessible, was a watchtower.
The castle wall is preserved on the southern rock at a height of eight meters. On the opposite side of this wall is a remnant of the three-story palace.
