The castle train is a castle in the same city train in Canton train ( Switzerland ). It is located in the newer old town of Zug and is therefore within the second city wall.
history
The beginnings of the castle go back to the 11th century. At that time, still called the Zug settlement, an older wooden structure was replaced by a stone curtain wall , which was destroyed in the 12th century. During the reconstruction, the still existing tower and a new curtain wall were built.
Hof Zug was built in the 11th century by the Counts of Lenzburg's ministerials . In the 13th century the court (Curtis) came to the Counts of Kyburg , founders of the city of Zug, who converted it into a castle with the tower that still exists today. After the Kyburgs died out, the Counts of Habsburg succeeded in gaining all rights to the castle in 1273.
On November 14, 1315, Duke Leopold gathered his army in Zug before the battle of Morgarten near the castle, where he spent his last night. After Zug joined the Confederation in 1352, the castle went into private ownership and served Zug families as a representative residence in the following centuries.
The Brothers of the torrechten life rallied after returning from the Battle of Nancy in train under the blue banner with piston and Sau, 1477. The original Saubanner is now in the Museum of the castle train.
In 1555 one of these owners, Johannes Zurlauben , built the frame structure , which is still visible today, on top of the former shield wall .
After the extensive restoration from 1979 to 1982, the castle is now in its state around 1770. Since 1982, it has housed the cultural history museum of the city and canton of Zug.
