history

Already in 1894/95 was in Basel , a loose association founded that had the search for ruins in the area of Basel to the goal. At the height of the third epoch of the Heimatstil , the Association of Castle Friends of both Basels was formed on September 19, 1931 as a spin-off from the Swiss Castle Association founded in 1927 . Although there were only a dozen members at the beginning, the association immediately started supporting several projects. So could z. B. the ruins of Farnsburg and the ruins on the Wartenberg and later also the Bottmingen Castle benefit from this support.

The work of the association shifted very strongly to motivation and knowledge transfer when, in the second half of the 20th century, state organizations also took over the preservation work for castles and palaces. During this time, thanks to the motivation and support of Eugen Dietschi-Kunz at the annual meeting of castle friends in 1943, the establishment of the Swiss Castle Archives was tackled: self-procured material was soon supplemented by the handover of entire collections of material from well-known castle experts.

From 1949 to 1958, the association published the series of the Burgenfreunde both Basels . The members of Christian Adolf Müller , Eugen Dietschi Kunz and Alvin Edward Jäggli published in monographs or reprints over the Rötteln Castle , the castle Rotberg , on Monvoie and ruin Sternberg .
