"The Burgrave of Regensburg" ( Codex Manesse , beginning of the 14th century)

The Burgrave of Regensburg (late mid-12th century) was a minstrel from the noble family of Babones . He is one of the few traditional representatives of the early Danube country minstrel.

Life

It is unclear which Burgrave of Regensburg it is exactly. Several burgraves of Regensburg are attested in the corresponding period (up to 1185). The office of Burgrave of Regensburg was held between 970 and 1185 by the lords of the Babonen family, who were also Counts of Stevening and Rietenburg . From them comes as the traditional minstrel Heinrich III. (around 1130–1177; † before the end of 1177) in question, who had held the burgrave office since 1143, but possibly also one of his three sons. Above all, the oldest son, Friedrich II (attested to around 1150–1181), who had been burgrave since 1159, would be possible here. The contemporary minstrel Burgrave von Rietenburg was probably a relative of the Burgrave of Regensburg.

Works

In the Manessische Liederhandschrift , four stanzas in two tones are handed down under the name Burggraf von Regensburg . As with the Kürenberger , there are long line stanzas. Three of the four stanzas are women's stanzas.

Text example

I am with rehter staete a guoten riter undertan
how gentle it does minem hearts, i know in umbevangen han
the guot, who is poorly virtuous
made alder welde liep, he likes to wear the muot high

I have given myself to a good knight with true consistency.
How good it is for my heart when I hold him in my arms!
Anyone who has achieved
popularity everywhere with their exemplary decency can be of high spirits.
