Tower on the Langenstein
The tower on the Langenstein was located in the municipality of St. Nikola an der Donau in the district of Perg in Upper Austria , which rose on an elongated rocky reef in the Danube near the so-called vortex . Another name for this tower was "the hermitage". The Langenstein itself is a rocky hill north of the listed Hausstein chapel.
In 1351 the tower is documented as "Werbenstain vber die Chlaws in the Paumgarten within the district of Diezzenpachs" . From the Langenstein the Danube could be blocked off with a chain to the Hausstein . When the Danube was regulated in 1854, the tower and its ruins were blown up and an obstacle to navigation was removed.
