Burkard Porzelt (born February 15, 1962 in Würzburg ) is a German theologian and university professor .

Life

After his school days and his community service, Porzelt studied Catholic theology at the University of Würzburg . In 1991 Porzelt received his diploma in Catholic theology and in 1993 his diploma in education. In 1999 he started at the University of Mainz with the thesis “Young people intensive experiences. Qualitative-empirical approach and relevance to religious education ” . After a scientific assistant at the Department of Religious Education, Catechetics and Fachdidaktik religion in the Department of Catholic Theology at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz 2003 he received a call to the chair of the "Catholic Theology and its didactics, emphasis Religious Education " at the University of Münster .

In 2006 he switched to the professorship for practical theology (religious education and didactics of religious instruction) at the University of Regensburg .

Act

The main focus of activity and research is the pedagogical and didactic aspect of theology. He researches the importance of the Bible for today's religious education and the question of how it can deal with the cultural and historical distance between the Bible and the present day.

Burkard Porzelt has been Dean of the Theological Faculty at the University of Regensburg since 2016 .

Episcopal disciplinary measures

In connection with the withdrawal of the excommunication of the Pius Brotherhood and in response to the subsequent multilingual and internationally widespread Vaticanum 2 petition , Regensburg Bishop Gerhard Ludwig Müller reprimanded the three theology professors of the University of Regensburg , Burkard Porzelt, Sabine Demel and Heinz-Günther Schöttler .
