Burkard von Weckenstein

Knight Burkard von Weckenstein (* around 1180, † after 1241) was a Staufer Reich ministeriale (Ministerialis Domini Imperatoris) of Emperor Friedrich II .

He had the von Weckenstein castle built between 1227 and 1233 , of which only remains can be found today. It was located on the right bank of the Schmeie , above Storzingen in the Sigmaringen district in Baden-Württemberg .

In 1212, with the support of the abbot of the Salem abbey , Eberhard von Rohrdorf , he founded the Wald monastery for his sisters Judintha (around 1180 to 1229) and Ita . There was also a brother named Rudolf.

The dynasty of the Knights of Weckenstein had a silver diamond on the top of a green three-mountain as a coat of arms on a red shield. The family died out in 1383.
