Burkhard Frenzel

Burkhard Frenzel (born January 22, 1928 in Duisburg ; † February 6, 2010 in Leinfelden-Echterdingen near Stuttgart ) was a German geographer and botanist .

Life

Frenzel studied geography, geology and botany at the Humboldt University in Berlin . After two years he moved to the University of Bonn , where he received his doctorate in natural sciences in 1952 for a thesis on the vegetation of the Allgäu high Alps . In 1960 he completed his habilitation at the TU Weihenstephan . In 1967 Burkhard Frenzel was appointed full professor at the chair for botany at the University of Hohenheim , where he taught until his retirement in 1996.

From 1982 to 2002 Burkhard Frenzel was President of the Hugo Obermaier Society for Research into the Ice Age and the Stone Age. Since 1991 he has also been a member of the German government's scientific climate advisory board, which he chaired in 1994.
