Burkhard Monien

Burkhard Monien (born March 23, 1943 in Lyck , East Prussia ) is a German computer scientist .

Monien received his doctorate in 1969 from the University of Hamburg . He then continued to work in Hamburg at the Institute for Applied Natural Sciences and Computer Science. In 1975 he received a professorship at the University of Dortmund , since 1977 he was a full professor in Paderborn , where he taught computer science and was chairman of the research institute Paderborn Center for Parallel Computing (PC 2 ). He retired on April 30, 2008.

In 1992 he received the Leibniz Prize together with Friedhelm Meyer auf der Heide . Since 1996 he has been a member of the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences and Arts and since 2002 a member of acatech - German Academy of Science and Engineering .
