Burkhard Weisser

Burkhard Weisser (* 1960 in Berlin ) is a German sports doctor .

career

Weisser, who received a scholarship from the German Study Foundation, studied medicine at the University of Bonn from 1979 to 1986 ; in 1984 and 1985 he did study visits to Boston , Chicago and San Francisco (both in the United States ). In 1986 he passed his state examination and from that year worked as an assistant doctor at the University Hospital Bonn . In 1987 he completed his doctorate in Bonn.

From 1990 to 1993 Weisser was a postdoctoral fellow at the University Hospital Zurich before he returned to Bonn and worked again as an assistant doctor at the University Clinic until 1996. In 1994 he completed his specialist training in internal medicine . Between 1996 and 2004 Weisser was a senior physician at the Medical Clinic and Polyclinic of the Bonn University Hospital. During this time he completed his specialist training in sports medicine in 1998 and in hypertensiology in 2004 .

In 2004, Weisser took up a professorship for sports medicine and training at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel . He took over the chairmanship of the Sports Medical Association Schleswig-Holstein, the management of the sports medical examination center of the Olympic training center Hamburg / Schleswig-Holstein as well as the office of the association doctor of the German Sailing Association .

In addition, he became anti-doping officer of the German Sailing Association and, from 2007, of the State Sports Association of Schleswig-Holstein .

In 2013 Weisser became a board member of the German Hypertension League .

His main research interests include sports-medical aspects of age-related sports and cardiac sports, blood pressure during physical exertion and sports-medical aspects of sports and physical activity at altitude.
