history

In 1831 Friedrich Burkhardt, miller on the neighboring Untere Kleinmichelesmühle, built a sawmill and a hemp grater at the confluence of the Reichenbach in the Aich. The mill was indicated with Lower Sawmill and Reichenbacher Sawmill. In 1893 the name Burkhardtsmühle was mentioned for the first time. The sawmill was owned by the Burkhardt family until 1858, when it was sold to Adam Kämmerle for 3,000 guilders. In 1861 it was acquired by Johann Georg Waidelich from Fünfbronn in the Black Forest for 4600 guilders. His two sons Johann Georg and Christian Friedrich inherit the mill in 1872, and in 1881 Christian Friedrich sells his share to his brother. In 1887 a Waldhorn inn is mentioned for the first time, the landlord is called Friedrich Bachmann. The opening of the Siebenmühlentalbahn Leinfelden-Waldenbuch on June 22, 1928 was advantageous for the sawmill and the restaurant . In 1930, Rudolf Waidelich built the Plattenhard outdoor pool north of the Burkhardtsmühle, which was very popular with hikers, but was closed around 1941. His two nephews take over the sawmill when Paul Waidelich had a fatal accident at the Burkhardtsmühle in 1945. The Burkhardtsmühle stop was of great importance for the commuters from Neuenhaus , who could travel to Stuttgart via Leinfelden. In 1955 the railway line was closed due to insufficient profitability. The former railway line between the Musberg exit and the Glashütte entrance has been paved throughout and is used intensively by hikers, cyclists, joggers and inline skaters. The path on the former railway line is officially designated as a federal hiking trail by means of corresponding signs .

The Burkhardtsmühle has been used for theater performances since 1968, and an amateur theater group founded the "Komede-scheuer". In 1974 the theater group moved to the Mäulesmühle and since 1985 the Swabian folk theater scenes Hannes and the mayor have been performing in this mill . After numerous changes of owner and lessee and a longer vacancy, the Waldmeister beer garden was reopened in 2000. Since 2010 the Burkhardtsmühle has been operated as a Greek restaurant, Beim Greek .
