Bushrod Island is an island in Monrovia , the capital of Liberia . It lies in the Atlantic Ocean and is only separated from the mainland by the narrow Stockton Creek between the Mesurado River and the Saint Paul River .

The Freeport Monrovia is located on Bushrod Island , the only artificial free port in all of West Africa . As the national center for trade and transport, it has attracted numerous companies primarily active in the petroleum , paint , tuna , pharmaceutical and cement sectors.
Important buildings
Well-known buildings on the island are for example the Capitol, which was built in 1958, the Executive Mansion from 1964, the town hall and the " Temple of Justice ".
