Life

Busso V. von Alvensleben came from the Low German noble family Alvensleben and was the third son of Albrecht III. von Alvensleben on Calbe / Milde (mentioned 1351–1405). He entered the Order of St. John and between 1416 and 1419 was Lord Master of the Brandenburg Ballei . He held this office until around 1424/26. He then resigned, but continued to function as Commander-in-Chief to Werben (Elbe). It was last mentioned as such in 1432. Busso von Alvensleben stood out primarily through his charitable foundations: in 1424 he founded the St. Gertrauden Hospital in front of the Elbtor together with the council of Werben, in 1429 he gave the coming ten wispel annual grain lease from the village of Räbel bei Werben for the welfare of the poor.

In the cross vault of the Johanniterkirche in Sonnenburg near Küstrin (now Poland) there is still the coat of arms of the master master. It shows the Johanniterkreuz and the Alvensleben coat of arms in two fields each.
