About this picture

Rabel ( Danish : Rabøl ) is a municipality on the Schleienge Rabelsund near Kappeln in the Schleswig-Flensburg district in Schleswig-Holstein .

Geography and traffic

Rabel is about four kilometers north of Kappeln on the federal highway 199 to Niebüll . She has the railway line Flensburg-Kappeln in the 1950s Flensburger orbit replaced, which had a railway station in Rabel. Today, the Flensburg –Kappeln bus from Autokraft runs instead on the B 199 . The next station still in operation is Süderbrarup on the Kiel – Flensburg railway line , about 15 kilometers west of Rabel.

The community also includes Haarmark (Danish Harmark ), Hauheck ( Hovled ), Mariental, Ochsenkoppel, Ruhkrog with the Ruhkrog farm and Ruhkrog settlement ( Rokrog ), Schauheck ( Skovled ), Scheideheck ( Skilleled ), Kleefeld, Rabelsund, Gut Buckhagen ( Bukhavn ). and the small Schleiinsel Flintholm .

history

Rabel is mentioned for the first time in 1519, but at that time there were two villages that were next to each other: Alt-Rabel and Neu-Rabel. The place name is made up of the basic word büll , dan. bøl for settlement and either the meaning word in Danish. for pole, post, border post or for deer. The meaning would be settlement on the stake or settlement where deer are . An interpretation in Old Norse for land, soil, border field is also possible as a description for a settlement located on a border.

Well Buckhagen

Gut Buckhagen (dan .: Bukhavn ) belonged to the fishing estate district. The name of the estate probably means enclosed pasture for sheep .

The estate was built in 1660 and has been preserved along with a large part of the moat around the complex. In 1965 the interior of the mansion was restored.
