Claude Hudson "Butch" Trucks (born May 11, 1947 in Jacksonville , Florida ; † January 24, 2017 ) was an American drummer and one of the founding members of the Allman Brothers Band .

biography

In the early 1960s, Trucks joined his first band, The Vikings, with whom he recorded a first single in 1964. In one of his other early projects, The 31st Of February , which were founded and dissolved that same year in 1968, Duane Allman and Gregg Allman were already involved. In 1969 he finally helped found the Allman Brothers Band, which he played with until it was dissolved in 2014. He was known for his charismatic demeanor and his often stoic looks at other band members while he was playing.

In addition to music, Trucks was also interested in philosophy and literature . Most recently he lived in Florida with his wife.

His nephew, the blues and slide guitarist Derek Trucks , also played for the Allman Brothers.

In 2016, Rolling Stone listed Trucks, together with his bandmate Jaimoe, at number 71 of the 100 best drummers of all time .
