Railway depot Heide

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bahnbetriebswerk Heide (short form: Bw Heide) was a railway depot in Heide , which was closed in 1952. The plant started in the 1870s. In 1877 the line from Neumünster to Karolinenkoog was built over Heide. In 1878 the rail line coming from Itzehoe reached Heide. At this point in time a workshop was built in Heide, from which the Bw Heide was created.

The Heide station was an island station until 2012 ; the depot was on the southeastern, Neumünsteran side. The Bw had a turntable and roundhouse . The main task was to cover the trains on the branch lines to Büsum and Neumünster as well as the local traffic on the Marschbahn .

Up to the Second World War , locomotives of the Prussian State Railways , such as the 54 and 91 series , were located here. The Heide depot also had to hand in locomotives for use in the east. After the end of the war, the depot received three series 24 machines for use on the route to Neumünster and Büsum . The 54 series was exchanged for the 56.2 series .

The Heide depot could not resist the structural change that was beginning and was closed in autumn 1952. The locomotives have been distributed to the neighboring depots, with the services mostly remaining.

Most of the buildings were largely removed after 1990.

On January 1st, 2002 the former engine shed, which was used as a storage shed, burned down. The entire inventory of the Heider Marktrieden was destroyed. The new housing estate "Wohnpark Rüsdörper" has been located on the site since 2019.
