The Byōbu Rock ( English ; Japanese び ょ う ぶ 岩 Byōbu-iwa , German ' Windwandfelsen ' , Norwegian Bratthamaren 'Steile Klippe' ) is a rock formation on the Crown Prince Olav Coast in the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . The rock rises 1.5 km east of Gobamme Rock .
Japanese scientists, who descriptively named it in 1962, mapped it on the basis of surveys and aerial photographs from the years 1957 to 1962. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names translated the Japanese name into English in 1968.
