The Gobamme Rock ( English , Japanese 碁 盤 目 岩 Gobanme-iwa , German ' Go -Brettfeld (er) -Felsen' ; Norwegian Ruteknausen 'Quaderfelsen' ) is a rock formation on the Crown Prince Olav Coast in the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . It rises up between the Kozō Rock and the Byōbu Rock .
Participants in the Japanese Antarctic Expedition, which ran from 1957 to 1962, photographed, mapped and named him. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names translated the Japanese name into English in 1968.
