Byomkesh Tripathy

Byomkesh Tripathy (also Byomkesh Tripathi ; born January 19, 1929 , † May 10, 1997 in Puri , Orissa ) was an Indian theater and film director, as well as playwright, producer and actor of the Oriya film .

Life

He was the eldest son of Gobinda Tripathy , a well-known Oriya writer of the early 20th century, and his wife Sati Devi. After graduating from the University of Calcutta with a bachelor's degree , he studied at the Asian Theater Institute in Delhi . He then became a member of the Annapurna theater group in Cuttack and devoted himself as a writer to the development of theater in Orissa. With his play Ek dui tin (Eng. One, two, three ) from 1959, he drew the attention of the local theater scene, and Kansa kabat , Simhadwar , Tola kania and Suna farua also caused a sensation in cultural circles. He is the author of 28 plays and has appeared or directed 71 plays.

His first contact with film was as an actor in Kalyan Guptas Saptasajya (1950). His most successful directorial work was Mamata (1975), produced by Prashanta Nanda . He starred in about 25 films, including Kaa (1966) by Siddharth , Sadhu Mehers Abhilasha (1983) and the following year in Neerab Jhada by Manmohan Mohapatra . Shortly before his death he was busy producing a documentary about 50 years of Oriya Theater for the Indian television Doordarshan .

Byomkesh Tripathy died of a heart attack. He had three children. His brother Biyotkesh Tripathy († 2007) was a professor of American studies at Utkal University in Bhubaneswar , and also an author.
