The Byryuchy Island ( Ukrainian Бирючий острів ; Russian Бирючий Остров / Birjuchij Ostrow ) is a Ukrainian peninsula in the northwest of the Azov Sea .
Until 1929, today's spit was separated from the Fedotowa Spit by a narrow strait (Ukrainian Федо́това коса́ ), hence the name "island", which it has not been since then. The island separates the Utlyuk Liman in the north from the Sea of Azov in the south.
Administratively, the Byryuchy Island in the Azov-Sywasch National Park belongs to Henichesk Raion in Kherson Oblast . Tourism takes place on a smaller scale on the island. There has been a lighthouse in the southwest of the peninsula since 1878 .
