Cölestin Stampfer (born September 3, 1823 in Burgeis as Josef Stampfer, † January 19, 1895 in Meran ) was a Tyrolean historian and writer.

Life

Josef Stampfer, son of a small farmer, and in 1849 Benedictine Marienberg (Burgeis) for ordained priests was, from 1852 teacher at the Benedictine school in Merano. Stampfer studied philosophy at the Innsbruck Lyceum . After his ordination he chose "Cölestin" as the religious name. In addition to his teaching activities, he has written numerous books and magazine articles on the history of Merano and Vinschgau .

He was an honorary citizen of Meran and holder of the Golden Cross of Merit with the crown .
