The Cölestinerinnen-Kirche Steyr is a former monastery church of the Cölestinerinnen in the city of Steyr in Upper Austria . The building is a listed building and is now used as a music school and event venue.

history

The monastery church was built from 1676 to 1681 and rebuilt in 1728 after a fire in 1727. In 1784 the monastery was abolished. The municipality acquired the monastery and the church. In 1789 a provisional theater was started with the former stage equipment from the abolished Garsten Abbey . The actual conversion into a theater was carried out with financial support from Prince Lamberg in 1796. The former high altar with statues in the Rococo style with an altarpiece by the painter Franz Xaver Gürtler (1777) was transferred to the parish church of Schiedlberg in 1839 .
