Interior view by C. Bühlmayer

C. Bühlmayer is a former kuk court gilder and picture framer in Vienna . The frame shop is located at Michaelerplatz 6 in a small passage and the mirror shop is located at Bräunerstraße 10, both in the 1st district of Inner City in the immediate vicinity of the Hofburg .

history

The C. Bühlmayer company was founded and managed by Conrad Bühlmayer in 1820 and 1833 and soon had an important reputation. The gilder was initially only responsible for the imperial court. For his merits and quality, he was appointed kk Hofvergolder in 1844 . Later the restaurant opened to other customers. In addition to aristocrats and upper-class citizens, artists such as Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller were among the customers. Bühlmayer was friends with Adalbert Stifter .

In the early days , the need for gilding and frames was very high. At that time, up to 80 carvers and 120 gilders worked on the premises in the 7th district of Neubau. Furnishings, furniture, wall coverings and stucco were processed . Parts of these works can be viewed in the Imperial Furniture Collection , for example .

Bühlmayer received the golden cross of merit from the emperor. For his participation in the world exhibition in 1873 he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Franz Joseph Order . In 1884 the local council awarded him the large gold Salvator medal for his 60th anniversary as a master craftsman and citizen.

Bühlmayer was married to Cosima and lived in Josefstadt.

In 1901 the company became the property of Heliodor Machts, who in turn headed the kuk Hof gilding company Rud. Bauer was in Vienna and was known as a specialist. His specialty was the manufacture of furniture and frames in the style of the old masters, as well as the restoration of all kinds of ancient art objects.

The end of the monarchy in 1918 and the difficult economic situation that followed drove the company to ruin. On Black Friday 1929 the company had to be foreclosed, but the owners bought it back because there was no interested party. During the corporate state and at the beginning of the Second World War, as well as after the end of the war, a slight upswing took place again. Michael and Elisabeth Haider were the managing directors.
