Charles James "CJ" Brown (born June 15, 1975 in Eugene , Oregon ) is a retired American football player on the position of defender .
Brown has coached Aurora Borealis SC, which plays in the amateur league Premier League of America, since the 2016 season.
Player career
Youth and college
Brown played college soccer at San Jose State University for four years . During this time he was named All-Conference Player twice (1995 and 1996). During and after college, Brown played in the United States International Soccer League with the San Francisco Bay Seals.
With the Seals he had the status of an amateur footballer for the first two years, as the team played in the UISIL Premier League, an amateur league, and he also attended college. In 1997 the Seals played in the USISL D-3 Pro League, later the USL Second Division , and in the same year even made it to the semi-finals of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cups . Major League Soccer noticed him because of his good performance during this period.
Major League Soccer
Brown was drafted first pick in the 1998 Chicago Fire MLS Supplemental Draft . He was able to establish himself as a regular player there without any problems and remained so for the years to come.
In its first ten years, completed 249 games in the regular season . He's still the most-game player for Chicago Fire today. In 1998 he was able to win the MLS Cup with the team and the US Open Cup four times.
Brown also stood up for the younger players and was referred to by many as the "Fire Originals". His combat strength and professional toughness were legendary in the MLS.
After the 2010 season, he announced the end of his career.
National team
Brown completed 15 international matches for the US national soccer team . He made his first on November 6, 1998 against Australia . At the 1999 FIFA Confederations Cup , where the USA finished third, he was part of the squad and played the full 90 minutes in the 2-0 win over the German national soccer team . He was also part of the US squad at the 2000 CONCACAF Gold Cup .
Coaching career
CJ Brown was an assistant coach at Real Salt Lake until the end of the 2013 season . He has held this position since the 2011 season. In 2014 he joined Jason Kreis and Miles Joseph as assistant coach at New York City FC .
Personal
Brown married his wife Kim on October 22, 2000. On February 24, 2004, their first daughter, Canessa J-Lyn, was born. The second daughter, Kali Anh Brown, was born exactly one year later.
