CAIN is a band from the Rhine-Ruhr region that was founded in 2000.

Band history

The band began as a project that composed the song Age of Darkness for the radio play series Geisterjäger John Sinclair, which was initially released in 2000 as an abridged version of the credits on the six radio plays in the series. On the second special edition, Ghostbusters John Sinclair: The Impaler , the song was played for the first time. It also runs hidden in the background in another episode. Since then the band has been considered the official John Sinclair Band. The song was released as a CD single by Warner Music and offered for download.

In November 2011 the publication received the Impala-Diamond European Independent Music Award for more than 250,000 songs sold. In September 2012 two new songs by the band appeared on the compilation John Sinclair: Dark Symphonies , on which the band paid tribute to the big novel hero alongside Xavier Naidoo , Nena , Deichkind and many other quite different artists. The album entered the German charts .

Singer and lyricist Marc Sieper wrote Dracula - Das Musical (Hollysound Records, 1995) in the mid-1990s , which was played in Wetter an der Ruhr for two years. He was also the front man of the progressive band Celtic Crypt and the Irish folk band t Patrick for years . Sieper achieved the greatest success when he landed a hit in the German single charts in 2006 with his text Dein Herz for the Austrian band L'Âme Immortelle . He also wrote the lyrics for Sir Christopher Lee , which can be heard on the double CD Edgar Allan Poe : Visions .

Singer Kirstin New got together with Sieper through the musical Dracula , in which they were on stage together. She can also look back on numerous live appearances with her hard rock band Kiesberch , including at major festivals such as Rock im Park (Nuremberg), and there was also a joint appearance with Peter Maffay .

style

CAIN's style of music is characterized by hard guitar riffs and driving drums. The singing can be highlighted as a special feature, the technically alienated, rather deep voice of the singer harmonizes with the singer 's singing, which is reminiscent of Doro Pesch ( Warlock ). “The song Age of Darkness is tailor-made for the target group dressed in black,” said the community of hoerspiele.de at the time.

Band members

The founding members are Michael Marianetti (programming, composition), Kirstin New (vocals) and Damien Cain, a pseudonym of Marc Sieper (vocals, text). While Marianetti has appeared in the past exclusively as a composer of various audio book music (including The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett or The Girl by Stephen King ), the two singers can look back on an eventful creative career.

reunion

In 2010 the band reunited. On the occasion of the ten-year anniversary of the John Sinclair radio plays, the members of CAIN met again and decided to revive the band and produce an album. Four composers were given the task of writing new songs for the band: Andy Matern is actually a composer of TV, film and radio play music and was most recently awarded a gold record in 2010 for his composition for The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown .

Wuppertal's Burkhard Ballein (active in the NDW band Lunapark , among others ) and Ricky Gee from England (now also Wuppertal) work together as a composer team . Gee has already worked with Drafi Deutscher , Dieter Bohlen or wrote songs for Chris Norman . Martin Schreiber from Wolfratshausen near Munich contributed more songs. At the end of March 2013, the debut album Moonstruck was released , on which Wayne Hussey from The Mission and formerly The Sisters of Mercy is a guest. Moonstruck entered the German Alternative Charts (DAC) at number 10 in April 2013.

Others

There are different international bands with the name Cain , but they represent different styles.
