CAL Cargo Airlines is an Israeli cargo airline based in Tel Aviv and based at Ben Gurion Airport .

history

CAL Cargo Air Lines (CAL Cargo Air Lines originally) was established in June 1976 as a subsidiary of El Al set up with participation of private investors to fruit and vegetables and other perishable goods in scheduled air transport to transport from Israel to Western Europe. Operations began on November 1, 1976 with a Boeing 747-200C , which was initially only rented for individual flights from El Al. At the beginning of 1977, CAL leased an identical machine from the US American Western Airlines and also used El Al cargo planes for a short time. Because the company's order situation was heavily dependent on the harvest season , CAL could not use the leased machine permanently and returned it after a short period of use. Until 1999, the company did not own any aircraft, but rented freighters from El Al at short notice if necessary.

CAL acquired a Boeing 747-200C from Atlas Air in November 1999 . A second machine of this type was added to the fleet in January 2001. Today the company transports over 100,000 tons of freight annually.

With LACHS - Liege Air Cargo Handling Services in Liège and Road Feeder Services, there are two sister companies of CAL Cargo Airlines in the CAL Group .
