Israir ( Hebrew ישראייר, previously with the brand Emek Wings ) is a private Israeli flight and tourism company based in Tel Aviv and based at Ben Gurion Airport .

history

Israir was founded in 1989 under the name Kanfei HaEmek ( Emek Wings ). In 1996 it was renamed Israir and started international flights in 1999. The Gandon Group was the sole owner of the airline, which in June 2004 for the first time the route from Tel Aviv to John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York as a charter flight operated. When Israir was recognized as a regular airline in court, it was able to offer these flights on a scheduled service, but they have since been suspended.

After El Al already wanted to take over Israir in May 2015, the merger of Israir with El Al's subsidiary, Sun d'Or, was announced in July 2017 . Israir's previous owner, IDB Tourism, is said to receive $ 24 million and 25 percent of the d'Or. The approval of the authorities and the consent of the Israir pilots is still pending. The merger was ultimately canceled.
