CCL2 ( English CC chemokine ligand 2 , CC chemokine ligand 2 ') is a cytokine from the family of CC chemokines . Synonyms for the CCL2 are monocyte chemotactic protein 1 (MCP1) and small inducible cytokine A2 .

properties

CCL2 is formed at sites of inflammation by monocytes , T memory cells and dendritic cells , secreted , bound to proteoglycans of endothelial cells , activated proteolytically by matrix metalloprotease 12 ( MMP-12 ) and then binds these cell types there. CCL2 is also made by neurons , astrocytes, and microglia . The gene expression of CCL2 is mainly in the cerebral cortex , in the globus pallidus , in the hippocampus , in the paraventricular and supraoptic hypothalamic nuclei, in the substantia nigra , in the nucleus motorius nervi facialis , in the trigeminal motor and spinal nuclei, in the gigantocellular reticular nucleus the Purkinje cells of the cerebellum .

CCL2 is bound by the CCR2 and CCR4 receptors . After stimulating cells with CCL2, the gene expression of MCPIP1 is induced.
