CC (* December 22, 2001 , female ; † March 3, 2020 in College Station , Texas ), short for Copy Cat (English, about "copy cat", but also "imitator"), according to another version for carbon Copy (engl. for breakdown ), was the first cloned cat.

Her surrogate mother was a tabby, her clone mother a tortoiseshell cat . CC was the only of 87 cloned embryos that survived. She was born in the veterinary school at Texas A&M University . Its existence was announced in February 2002 after its viability was confirmed. CC has the same color genes as its gene donor, but a different coat pattern due to a different X inactivation .

In September 2006, CC gave birth to three naturally conceived kittens. Until her death, she lived with Duane Kraemer, an employee of the project.

The CC project was carried out by Mark Westhusin in collaboration with the Korean Taeyoung Shin (신태영) and was sponsored by the Genetic Savings & Clone company, which promised a lucrative market for itself by cloning lost but loved pets.

CC died on March 3, 2020 in College Station , Texas .
