Platelet glycoprotein 4 (synonymous CD36 ) is a surface protein that occurs on blood platelets (thrombocytes) , among other things .

properties

Platelet glycoprotein 4 is a receptor for various substances, including thrombospondin , fibronectin , collagen or amyloid beta as well as oxidized LDL , anionic phospholipids , long-chain fatty acids and diacylated lipopeptides . Platelet glycoprotein 4 can form protein complexes with itself (laterally in the cell membrane ). It is involved in angiogenesis , inflammation , lipid metabolism and fat absorption . It is also a coreceptor of the heterodimer of TLR4 and TLR6 and of inflammatory processes in monocytes and macrophages . Plasmodium falciparum use platelet glycoprotein 4 for cell adhesion from parasitized erythrocytes . It is glycosylated and palmitoylated . It is believed to be involved in the development of arteriosclerosis . CD36 is believed to be involved in the perception of the taste of fats .
