Platelet selectin (synonym P-selectin , P-selectin , CD62P from English platelet 'thrombocyte') is a surface protein from the group of selectins .
properties
P-selectin is a lectin and participates in cell adhesion in an immune reaction . It mediates Ca 2+ -dependent cell contacts between leukocytes and endothelial cells or platelets by binding to sialyl-Lewis X . It is stored in alpha granules and Weibel-Palade bodies in the endothelial cells until the endothelial cell is activated . It then participates in the rolling of the leukocytes along the cell surface by binding to PSGL1 . P-selectin is glycosylated and palmitoylated .
P-selectin is involved in the decreased blood flow in sickle cell anemia .
