The Club Deportivo Málaga was a Spanish football club from the Andalusian city of Málaga . Founded in 1904, the club played in Spanish professional football for almost 50 years before it was disbanded in 1992.

history

The way to CD Málaga

The Málaga Foot-Ball Club was founded in 1904 . In 1912 the city rival FC Malagueño was born. Through the sponsorship of King Alfonso XIII. The Málaga Foot-Ball Club decided to rename it to Real Málaga FC . In the 1929/30 season, the two rival clubs became founding members of the Tercera División . In the early 30s, Real Málaga FC renamed itself again. The new name was now Málaga Sports Club . In 1933, Málaga Sports Club and FC Malagueño merged to form Club Deportivo Malacitano . In the 1934/35 season, this new team made their debut in the Segunda División expanded from 10 to 24 teams . The last name change followed in 1941, as after the Spanish Civil War the Franco regime banned foreign components in all sports clubs and their names. The club was henceforth called Club Deportivo Málaga.

Dissolution and Málaga CF

After the end of the CD Málaga era, its reserve team, Club Atlético Malagueño , took over the tradition of the first team under the new name of Málaga CF and has been successfully continuing it since 1993.

Trofeo Costa del Sol

From 1961 to 1983 the CD Málaga organized its own tournament, which took place every summer. The tournament was called Trofeo Costa del Sol . CD Málaga was able to win this competition three times - once each against the Spanish record champions Real Madrid , the Yugoslavs from Red Star Belgrade and the English team Derby County . After a twenty-year break, the successor to CD Málaga, Málaga CF, has continued the tradition of this tournament since 2003.

CD Málaga played at the Estadio La Rosaleda , which has a capacity of 28,963 spectators. The stadium was founded in 1941. The playing field measures 105 meters × 68 meters.
