The now decommissioned José Cabrera nuclear power plant is located in the municipality of Almonacid de Zorita in the province of Guadalajara in central Spain and consists of a pressurized water reactor .

history

Construction of the Westinghouse reactor with a net electrical output of 141  MW and a gross output of 150 MW began on June 24, 1964. After four years of construction, the reactor first became critical on June 30, 1968, and on July 14, 1968 it was first used It was synchronized with the power grid and began commercial operations on August 13, 1969, as the first nuclear power plant in Spain.

After 38 years of operation, the reactor was finally shut down on April 30, 2006. The dismantling of the system is performed by the ENRESA from 2009; it is expected to cost 135 million euros.
