CPMP tools

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

CPMP-Tools is a computer algebra system (CAS). CPMP is the acronym for the Core-Plus Mathematics Project , a National Science Foundation- funded project to improve teaching materials and learning methods in mathematics teaching. CPMP-Tools is free software and is under the GNU General Public License .

History of origin and use

The CPMP tools emerged from the Core-Plus Mathematics Project . Against the background of declining performance in STEM subjects by students in the USA, a number of initiatives and projects arose from the mid-1980s. These included Everybody Counts (NEC 1989), Curriculum and Evaluation Standards for School Mathematics (NCTM 1989), Professional Standards for Teaching Mathematics (NCTM 1991), and Assessment Standards for School Mathematics (NCTM 1995). NCTM 1989 mandated a standardized three-year math curriculum for high school students . With the Core-Plus Mathematics Project , funded for five years by the National Science Foundation , appropriate materials for students and teachers were to be developed and tested. The four-year curriculum also contains programs for mathematical modeling and requirements for the use of calculators and computers with graph functions.

The CPMP tools were first published in 1992. Since 2011 there have been explanatory videos for CPMP tools.

The CPMP Tools program is used by 10th to 13th grade students.

Components and Features

CPMP-Tools is a software package that consists of four components:

  • Algebra Tools consists of a spreadsheet and a computer algebra system (CAS).
  • Geometry Tools is a dynamic drawing tool that can construct and modify geometric figures.
  • Statistics Tools can graphically display univariate and bivariate statistics .
  • Discrete Math Tools enables mathematical modeling.

The functionality of CPMP tools includes:

technology

CPMP-Tools is based on the Java programming language , which must therefore be installed. CPMP-Tools is available for three operating systems:
