Real Canoe Natación Club is a sports club from the Spanish capital, Madrid , with departments for swimming , water polo , diving , synchronized swimming , basketball and rugby union .
history
Canoe Natación Club was founded on October 8, 1931 as a merger of the two sports clubs Canoë Club , a club founded by mountain sports enthusiasts a year earlier, and Club Natación Atlético , with a focus on swimming. Over the years, the club opened up to other sports, so the basketball section was founded in 1940 and rugby union followed in 1963.
The Real Canoe water polo team was the only team from outside Catalonia to win the Spanish championship. Real Canoe won the title in both 1998/99 and 1999/2000.
The men's basketball team played in the first division from 1958 to 1965 . The women's team won the Spanish championship three times in a row from 1983/84 to 1985/86 and also won the Spanish Cup in 1996.
The rugby section can look back on a particularly successful history. With five titles in the Spanish championship and ten cup wins, it is one of the most successful teams in Spain. Since 2005 the professional team has operated under the name Canoe Rugby Club Pozuelo Madrid , or CRC Madrid for short .
In November 1988 the club was awarded the title Real (Spanish for royal ) by King Juan Carlos I.
