The Someșul Mare ( German Great Somesch ; Hungarian Nagy-Szamos ) is the right source river of the Someș in the north of Romania .
Someșul Mare rises in the Rodna Mountains . It flows in a predominantly west-southwest direction. He passes the small towns of Sângeorz-Băi , Năsăud and Beclean . Above Beclean it takes its largest tributary, the Șieu , from the left. After about 130 km, the Someșul Mare joins the Someșul Mic at Dej to form Someș. Someșul Mare has a catchment area of 4990 km². The mean discharge is 51 m³ / s.
