Course of the Someșul Mic in Romania |
The Someșul Mic ( German Little Somesch ; Hungarian Kis-Szamos ) is the left source river of the Someș in northwest Romania .
The Someșul Mic arises near Gilau at the confluence of its two source rivers, Someșul Rece (Kalter Somesch) from the right and Someșul Cald (Warm Somesch) from the left, which arise in the Apuseni Mountains . The Someșul Mic flows in an easterly direction, flows through the city of Cluj-Napoca and turns north about 10 km later. It flows in a wide valley past Gherla and meets east of Dej on Someșul Mare coming from the east , with which it unites to Someș. The Someșul Mic has a length of about 90 km. Including source rivers, the total length is 178 km. The catchment area covers 3773 km².
