CS-23Light

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

CS-23Light is a planned, Europe-wide building regulation for the type approval for light aircraft . The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) is planning a new aircraft class up to 1200 kg under the European Light Aircraft (ELA) process , which is to be approved under the Certification Specification CS-23Light.

background

Based on the Notice of Proposed Amendment (NPA) 2008-07, EASA intends to make serious changes to the licensing provisions within general aviation. This initiative became necessary due to a decrease in the activity of "classical" leisure aviation and the development of the ultralight movement in Europe. Feedback from the industry and from operators was that the legal framework for recreational aircraft was gradually becoming too extensive for the type of use and leading to excessive bureaucratic effort for developers and manufacturers of these types.

Changes to a needs-based design are implemented by EASA as part of the two-part European Light Aircraft (ELA) process. One of the outstanding innovations is the creation of new aircraft classes as part of ELA 1. One of these new classes is defined with the Certification Specification CS-23Light .

The CS-23Light will be designed for aircraft up to 1200 kg and developed on the basis of the FAR -23 Amendment 7. The reason for this weight classification is that the vast majority of existing aircraft are certified in this weight range of the regulations. This basis will have to be expanded to include certain special conditions in order to accommodate new technologies such as B. composite materials and glass cockpits to be able to take into account.
