Caspar Hermann (* 9. March 1871 in Königsberg an der Eger , Bohemia , † 6. November 1934 in Leipzig ) was a German lithographer , and lithographer .

Life

In 1889 Hermann emigrated to the USA and worked there as a printer or transfer printer. In 1903 in Baltimore he developed a rotary stone printing machine for printing one to six colors on rubber. In 1907 he converted a Harris high-pressure sheet-fed rotary press by integrating a third cylinder for the blanket into the press for indirect printing. The first German offset printing machine was thus invented. It was named "Triumph" and was manufactured in Zweibrücken .

In 1909 Hermann invented the sheet feeder for printing presses before building a fully functional offset rotary press in 1913. This was manufactured in the Vogtland machine factory in Plauen. In 1921, the construction of the "Excelsior" offset printing machine was also pushed ahead in Plauen. This machine could print on one or two sides and was just as suitable for film as it was for embossing.

In 1921 Hermann developed the blanket rotary press for multi-color printing. It contained a satellite system. In 1931 Hermann made his first attempts at developing dry offset .
