Cabal is an arcade game of the shoot 'em up genre developed in 1988 by TAD Corporation . Although the gameplay is similar to that of light gun games such as Operation Wolf , Cabal is operated with a joystick or trackball . The playing figure is shown from the perspective of the pursuer and a moving crosshair shows the direction of the player's shot.

Game flow

The player takes on the role of a soldier who must try to destroy various scenarios, all of which are limited to one screen size. A level is ended when the player shoots a certain number of enemies. In addition to soldiers, who make up the main part, the player must fight against various war machines such as tanks or combat helicopters. If all opponents of a level are eliminated, all visible buildings collapse, unless they have already been destroyed by fire.

To achieve this goal, the player has a fully automatic assault rifle with no ammunition limit and a number of grenades. During the game, the player can find more weapons and additional grenades.

Similar to the game Space Invaders, there are several small walls at the beginning of a level at the bottom of the screen, which provide protection from enemy fire for a while.

control

With the help of the joystick / trackball, the character, which can only move horizontally, and the crosshair, which can also be moved vertically and diagonally, are controlled. The crosshair and the pawn cannot be moved at the same time. Holding down the shot button toggles between these two forms.

Ports

Cabal was ported to Amiga , C64 , Atari ST , NES , Amstrad CPC , Sinclair ZX Spectrum and MS-DOS from 1989 to 1990 and marketed by Ocean Software .
