The Cabane du Vélan is an alpine refuge in the Valais Alps . It is located north of Mont Vélan at an altitude of 2642 m above sea level. M. on the ridge to the "little Mont Vélan". The hut is owned by the Geneva section of the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC).
The hut stands out due to its modern design. The floor plan is a surface made up of two arched pieces that meet at two corners, similar to a diamond, with the corners rounded off with the flat angles.
The outside cladding of the hut made of titanium zinc sheet and the arrangement of the windows underline the futuristic appearance.
Ascent
The valley location is Bourg-Saint-Pierre . Approximately three and a half hours are to be estimated for the approximately 1000 meters in altitude to the hut.
Mountaineering
The hut is the starting point for Mont Vélan (3731 m) and La Croix de Tsousse (2822 m).
