Cabendadorp is a Caribbean ( Kali'na ) village community in Suriname , in the Para district and has around 250 inhabitants.
founder
The village was founded by Joseph Cabenda in 1974. The village head ( captain ) and founder of the village died on March 26, 2012 at the age of 87. He was buried in Cabendadorp a day later. The deceased was awarded the Grootmeester in de Ere-Orde van de Palm in 1999 by the former President Jules Wijdenbosch .
Successor
His successor in office was his daughter Yvonne Cabenda in 2012.
Location, infrastructure
Cabendadorp is located on the connecting route from Zanderij to Afobakaweg, about fifteen kilometers south of Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport .
The village has been connected to the electricity network since the end of 2005 and to the water network since 2012.
The Ecosystem 2000 Foundation started a project here to convert the savannah area into fertile plantations with, for example ( pineapple , cassava , bananas and nitrogen fixation ) "from the savannah to the kitchen garden".
particularities
Cabendadorp is known for the pottery of the Toenaé family. In addition, Julius Leo Toenaé is known beyond the borders of the village for his storytelling.
