Cadacross was a Finnish melodic death metal band from Hämeenlinna , which was formed in 1997 and split up in 2005.

history

The band was founded in 1997 and consisted of guitarists Georg Laakso and Tommi Saari, drummer Janne Salo and bassist Jarkko Lemmetty. In the same and the following year, Power of the Night and Bloody Way, the first two demos were released. Due to the failure of the demos the activity of the band came to a standstill. In 1999 Georg Laasko then joined Turisas . A little later, Cadacross was reactivated with a different style. Mathias Nygård, front man of Turisas, was now part of the line-up as keyboardist. The band then recorded their debut album in the Bayside Studio . In 2000 Sami Aarnio joined as a singer. In the following time the line-up changed several times. Saari was the first to leave the group, who was replaced by Tino Ahola. Next, Nygård left, whereupon Olli Laitola took this post. In January 2001, the debut album So Pale Is the Light was released on Low Frequency Records . In June Salo left the cast as the next member, whereupon Kimmo Miettinen joined. A little later, Laitola was replaced by Turisas keyboardist Antti Ventola. In the same year singer Nina Laakso also joined the group. In 2002, the second album Corona Borealis was released on Low Frequency Records. The Northern Crown was originally planned as the title . In the same year, Jukka Salo joined as the studio singer and Jukka-Pekka Miettinen as the new bass player. In May 2004 the band went to Seeltrack Studios in Hämeenlinna to record a third album. In October 2005, Georg Laakso was involved in a car accident in which he sustained injuries to his spine. Since then he has been permanently dependent on a wheelchair. Since he can no longer move his hands since his accident, this meant the end of Cadacross and in 2006 his departure from Turisas.

style

According to Allmusic's Eduardo Rivadavia , Cadacross started out as a band that played aggressive death metal. After the first two demos, the band became more musically accessible by incorporating more elements from melodic power metal and folk . He assigned Corona Borealis completely to Power Metal. Pete Pardo of seaoftranquility.org wrote in his review of So Pale Is the Light that listening to the album reminded him of Children of Bodom . This impression arises for him through the use of fast Power Metals with electric guitars and keyboards that sound borrowed from neoclassical metal , and aggressive vocals that are often typical of Black Metal . Occasionally elements from Viking and Symphonic Metal can also be heard. In her Corona Borealis review, Katrin Debes from Powermetal.de described Cadacross as a melodic death metal band. However, the group also processed elements from Death, Power, Folk and Viking Metal. The songs are mostly a mixture of "crashing guitars and playful, imaginative keyboards". The singing mostly moves "somewhere between grunting , clean and screeching singing" and is "partially supported by the clear, clear soprano of Nina Laakso". She also noticed a strong resemblance to Children of Bodom.
