Café Colonial in Gramado, Rio Grande do Sul

A Café Colonial is a typical buffet in Rio Grande do Sul , Santa Catarina and Paraná in southern Brazil in places with a strong German influence . The restaurants that offer this type of food are also called this.

You can find them in the places in the Serra Gaúcha such as Gramado , Canela , Nova Petrópolis , Santa Cruz do Sul , Igrejinha , Dois Irmãos and Guaporé as well as in the state of Santa Catarina for example in Brusque , Santa Rosa de Lima , São Pedro de Alcântara, Anitápolis or Grão-Pará .

In contrast to the café-da-manhã , the Brazilian breakfast, the Café Colonial can be taken at any time, often in the afternoon or for dinner. Typical ingredients are bread, butter, cheese, ham, sausage, pies in the dough, sausage, pickled vegetables, a soup, lubricant (the "German" jam in Brazil), honey, cakes, pies, biscuits, milk, coffee, cocoa and some more, preferably from our own production.

The restaurants that offer the Café Colonial at a fixed price usually only offer this on weekends and public holidays, usually only after 3 p.m.
