Dois Irmãos is a city in the southernmost Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul . The city has around 32,000 (2018 estimate) inhabitants. It is located in the north of the metropolitan area of Porto Alegre, 55 kilometers away, and on the hilly southern edge of the Serra Gaúcha .

Dois Irmãos borders (starting in the north clockwise) on Morro Reuter , Sapiranga , Campo Bom , Novo Hamburgo and Ivoti .

The climate is subtropical with an average annual temperature of 20 ° C. The rainiest is July with about 157 mm, the least rainy April with 97 mm.

Settlement began in 1825 with the arrival of German settlers from the Hunsrück . In 1829, 249 plots of land on the "Baumschneis" were largely given to settlers who had left Bremen in 1827, were shipwrecked and were only able to travel on from England two years later. Germans are still the dominant group of residents today. The city museum is housed in "Casa Kieling", one of the last remaining half-timbered houses from the colony era. The three old churches are also in the main street. The "Michelskerb" or "Kerb de São Miguel" has been celebrated since 1830.

In addition to small-scale agricultural production, shoes and furniture are produced. Tourism is a growing industry. German food and nature (rivers, waterfalls up to 60 meters high) are the attractions. Many “Café Colonial” line the streets and in the afternoons offer the Brazilian variant of the same name of a cold German dinner and also “Kuka” (cake). The "Rota Colonial" and the "Rota Romântica", on which Dois Irmãos is located, were created for tourist marketing.
