The Cajun Roosters are a German Cajun band . The group emerged from the Cajun Pioneers , who played traditional Cajun & Zydeco music, as it is popular in Cajun Country in southwest Louisiana , USA .

Cajun Pioneers

The Cajun Pioneers were founded in 1998 by Luitger Fräger ( Cajun Accordion , 3-row Zydeco Accordion, vocals). Other band members were Hartmut Hegewald ( fiddle , mandolin , washboard frottoir , triangle tit fer ), Klaus Warler guitar , Michael Bentele bass and Olaf Markewitz († February 7, 2007), drums . Luitger Fräger was killed in a traffic accident on February 11, 2005.

Cajun roosters

After Fräger's death, Hegewald, Warler and Bentele formed the Cajun Roosters together with accordionist Chris Hall (from R. Cajun & the Zydecobrothers , The Bearcat , Zydecomotion , Breaux ) and drummer Sam Murray (both from Great Britain) . The band is touring Europe at festivals and released their album Crank It Up in 2006 , for which they received the “Prix dehors de nous” award for a non-Louisiana Cajun band at the CFMA Awards in Lafayette in August 2007 . In November 2008 the album Double Shot was released . Klaus Warler left the band at the end of 2009, and Hazel Scott from Scotland has been a member of the band as a singer and guitarist ever since. In February 2011 the album okra and a pepper was released. Drummer Sam Murray left the band in April 2012 for health reasons. Since then, the Frenchman Antoine Fève has been playing the drums. In December 2012 the band performed in Sumatra (Indonesia) at the Sawahlunto World Music Festival . Violinist Hartmut Hegewald left the band in spring 2013. Since then the Belgian David Buyle has played the fiddle. The band's sixth CD was released in autumn 2013: Hell Yeah! in the current line-up.
