Beaches and bays in Mallorca

Cala s'Almunia (also Cala s'Almonia ) is a small bay in the southeast of the Spanish Balearic island of Mallorca . It is located on the coast of the municipality of Santanyí, southwest of the town of Cala Llombards in the direction of Cap de Ses Salines, the southern cape of Mallorca.

Location and description

Cala s'Almunia
Buildings on the east side

The Cala s'Almunia is located immediately south of the settlement named after it S'Almunia or S'Almonia , which is about 30 meters above the sea level of the bay. It is bordered by the capes es Faralló (southwest) and es Castellet de Ponent (northeast). A nature reserve of the type ANEI (Àrea natural d'especial interès) connects to the southwest, which extends to the Cap de ses Salines. The capital of the municipality Santanyí is 4.2 kilometers north of Cala s'Almunia , the next larger town Es Llombards 3.5 kilometers northwest.

On the northwest side of Cala s'Almunia is the small beach Es Maquer , about 10 meters long and 30 meters wide . It is framed by low rocks and interspersed with other rocks. The size of the sand area varies. Seagrass deposits can occur on the shore . The torrent de s'Almunia runs in the back of the beach . The brook, fed by rainwater, rarely carries water. Pine trees and shrubs grow on it .

On the east side of the bay there are some buildings, fishermen's houses and holiday homes with integrated boat sheds (Catalan escars ). They are well protected from strong seas by a rocky promontory in the south . A path leads from the buildings to the northeast to the Caló des Moro , which is located on 40,000 m² private property, but is freely accessible.

Access

From the MA-6100 road between Santanyí and Es Llombards, follow the road towards Cala Llombards . Then from Camí de Cala Llombards turn right into Carrer de s'Almunia and follow the signs through the settlement. You can park freely in the settlement above Cala s'Almunia . From Carrer des Caló des Moro , a flight of 120 steps leads south-west down to the shore of the bay.
